“...terrific lines, and Jackson delivers them with ace comedic timing” - Bay Area Reporter
"a toothsome, bittersweet confection” - Bay Area Reporter
"The Cake a thought-provoking mixture at New Conservatory" - For All Events
A "tightly written, fast-paced, ninety-minute play" - Theatre Eddys
"...a main course that is thoughtful and touching, heartbreaking and heart-warming, alluring and awakening. Come ready not only to be entertained but also to be challenged and to leave maybe a bit changed when it comes to viewing people who have beliefs and practices different from ourselves."
- Theatre Eddys
"Like a lovingly prepared buttercream confection, The Cake sparkles with a well-crafted script that allows the actors, directed by Tracy Ward, to enhance each other in scenes with surprising humor and revelations that give the audience a tasty treat.” - Theatre and Such
"As soon as we meet Della in Bekah Brunstetter’s play, The Cake, it is almost impossible not to fall immediately in love with her” - Theatre Eddys
“J.J. Van Name is perfect as Della giving her character misplaced strength in the Bible and at the same time showing compassion. Her highs and lows ring true even though her faith in the Bible is resolute. Jensen Power creates the conflicted Jen with great stature and makes you feel her pain at the same time shows the strong dependent love for Macy. Asia Jackson’s Macy is a study in strength/love and control that becomes modified before the end of the show.” - For All Events
