Here at NCTC, we create original and new adaptations of children’s plays for the Family Matinee Series. Under the direction of Stephanie Temple, NCTC’s Conservatory Director, advanced high school and middle school students are invited to audition and help develop one-of-a-kind, high quality productions for young audiences such as Bollywood Sleeping BeautyAladdinThe Wizard of Oz and Sock Puppet Jamboree.

Other children’s theatre companies often use adult actors for children’s productions, but we see this as an opportunity for our advanced students to gain pre-professional performance experience in our Family Matinee Company, a paid internship. And as young audiences watch teen performers, we hope they are inspired that they, too, may some day be up on that stage!

The Family Matinee Company members are often invited to perform at special NCTC events and specialize in charming young audience members in their post-show reception line, where little ones can meet the cast up close and take photographs. These post-show meet-and-greets are very important to our mission of building community.

The Family Matinee Series has become quite the community event over the years. Any given audience may be filled with current students, visiting college alums, board members, parents of former students, former students and their children, season ticket holders, NCTC staff members and new people who discovered us online.
