The Good Woman of Setzuan

April 28 - May 7

Performed by NCTC’s High School Performance Ensemble

Three gods visit an impoverished city in search of goodness. Shen Te, a good-hearted prostitute, provides them with shelter and, as a reward, they give her money to buy a small shop. Quickly becoming a target for the greedy—including the police, her customers, and extended family— Shen Te is forced to disguise herself as a man for protection. This classic play by Bertolt Brecht feels both contemporary and poignant as it asks the question, what does it mean to be good in an unjust world?
