January 30- March 5 (6 classes)

This fun and nurturing class will help anyone find their most creative self! You'll learn improvisational skills that will serve you, whatever you do! You will explore improvisations and games that will make you laugh, cry and trust your impulses. In this trusting environment, you'll keep finding new ways to express that improviser within! Join with a friend or a partner and double the fun!
*Jomar Tagatac has been teaching for NCTC since 2006. He received a bachelor's degree in theater from San Diego State University and a master of fine arts degree from the American Conservatory Theater. Jomar focuses on the fundamental skills in acting, using improv and theater games that promote focus, listening, character movement, teamwork and storytelling. Jomar also teaches hip hop throughout the bay area.

This dynamic class will focus on scene work. Whether you are a beginning or advanced actor, this course is for you. You’re on your feet in every class, doing improvisations, games and scene work. Students will be paired up with appropriate partners for scenes. The 8-week session culminates in a final showcase. A high energy class with fantastic students! Be brave, take a risk.
* Jessica Holt is a Bay Area director, producer and teacher and has worked with Boxcar Theater, Cutting Ball Theater, Magic Theatre, New Conservatory Theatre Center, Playwrights Foundation, PianoFight Productions, Woman’s Will, SF Theater Pub, Shotgun Players, and TheatreWorks, amongst others. Jessica is an Associate Artist at Magic Theatre where she directed Part 5 of Taylor Mac’s The Lily’s Revenge, The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later, and associate directed the recent revival of Why We Have a Body by Claire Chafee. She is the Artistic Director of the Bay One Acts Festival, an annual short play festival that recently celebrated its tenth season. Jessica is also the Artistic Director and co-founder of Threshold, a theatre company that produces challenging, adventurous new work. A passionate advocate for arts in education, she also teaches theatre and acting at West Valley College, Berkeley Playhouse, and Marin Theatre. Additionally, she has taught theatre at University of California, Berkeley, Evergreen Valley College, Academy of Art University and Stanford University. Jessica holds a Master’s degree in Performance Studies from University of California, Berkeley.

This class gives students a chance to work on solos, duets, and trios with an informal showcase on the final eve of class. Whether you have taken a singing class before, were in the high school choir years ago, or just like to sing in the shower, you’ll have a great time in this group. Don’t miss this opportunity to sing out in a welcoming, fun atmosphere.
*Scrumbly is a founding member of the Cockettes and long-time NCTC performer/instructor. Some of his past credits include: Pearls Over Shanghai, co-starred in the cabaret show Goldfield & Koldewyn and was the director/pianist for Spencer Day and the Crimson Clubs’ Someday Love--both at NCTC. Queer Playwriting Workshop
Join the next wave of playwrights for the queer community! Playwrights Garret Jon Groenveld and Tom W. Kelly
lead an exciting 8-week intermediate to advanced play writing workshop.
Fall 2011 (8 classes) | Wednesdays, Jan. 25 to March 14, 2012| 7pm -10pm | Tuition: $225
The class is a safe space for queer writers of any gender to delve into their scenes, one-acts and/or full-length plays and bring to life the characters and stories of our community.
Tom W. Kelly plays have been produced in London and throughout the U.S., including: SF, NYC, and LA. Locally he is work has been performed at: NCTC, EXIT Theatre, Theatre Rhinoceros and GuyWriters. In addition to playwriting, he has worked as an arts editor, theatre critic, and publicist as well as in almost every aspect of theatre arts.
Garret Jon Groenveld is an original writer with PlayGround, co-creator and lead writer of the cult underground hit, "The Duboce Triangle", and part of the inaugural Writer in Residence Program at the Playwrights Foundation. His full length and short plays include: "Missives" (Theatre Rhino, New York's 59E59), "The Serving Class" (winner 2010 Aurora Theatre's Global Age Project) and "The Hummingbirds" (winner, 2012 Aurora Theatre's Global Age Project). He has an MFA in Poetry and MA in Playwrighting.
Note: A compilation of short plays titled Men In Uniform, written exclusively by previous participants of the NCT Playwriting Workshop, world premiered in a fully-mounted production as part of NCT's 2007-08 Pride Season.
